I actually went to a taping!! They used the studio on West 58th Street (just west of Seventh Avenue) where Dick Cavett used to tape his show.

Reversals and surprises throughout. You never know who is truly aligned with whom. And the music? Here's the genius and confidence of George Roy Hill: Ragtime was WAY out of fashion by the 1930s. We should have been hearing the small groups of Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby and the like.

LOVE the cinematography of James Wong Howe.
I would have loved to have lived in NYC during that period. The theatre district had a much different vibe and excitement to it back then. (I grew up in NYC circa "Taxi Driver" and "All That Jazz")
