Pretty happy with the silver, bronze and finalist medals I was awarded at SMW this past weekend. Thanks to everyone in the group for the encouragement.

Thanks to everyone who helped me come to the correct decision and leave the figure off the base… the feedback was almost unanimous. I’ve just got a couple of things to tidy up and some stowage to glue into its final position, but the base is complete and the truck is in place.

Ok #histscalemodels hive-mind, I need your opinion. I’m entering this LRDG truck at Scale ModelWorld in Nov, and if I put it into the military soft skin class, I need to leave the figure off the base, otherwise it’s a dio. So, figure on or off? I’m not sure it stands up as a dio.

Pretty pleased with these two Raptor Miniatures figures, not bad for a couple of days’ painting. Next up, the base for the F30 Patrol Truck. I’ll hopefully have it finished in time for Scale Model World.

Finished my first ever vignette over the weekend for my Meng Kubelwagen. Pleased with how it turned out, and I’m fairly happy with the figure (still need to work on faces though). Might do another for the Land Rover. Should be taking it to Stoke end of the month.

John, can I check if your RT Panther set is the same as mine? My first set was slightly damaged and Tom kindly replaced the whole set. Problem is, both seem to have the part of the left hand tool rack missing (circled in blue). You can see the corresponding bit on the right rack (circled in red):

The AK Land Rover Series IIa is finished. It’s inspired by Robin’s Landy from the TV series Strike. I made a few modifications, including removing the side windows in the hard top, replacing the bonnet, and scratch building the tow bracket and spare wheel mount.

I’m hoping to get it finished this weekend… it’s nearly there

Update on the Land Rover. I was hoping to get it finished for the end of the month but decided I wasn’t happy with the hard top, so stripped it and started rebuilding the sides. I think I may have to redo the wheels as well 🙄

Bonnet, doors and front bumper dry fitted.

Managed a bit more on the AK Land Rover. Fairly pleased with the outcome, despite a few setbacks and daft mistakes.

Pin wash and oils next. I also need to redo the opposite side of the hardtop but that can wait for another time.

I think I’ve pretty much finished the raw metal finish for the Land Rover bodywork. I’ve treated the bulkhead and frame differently to the panels to differentiate the types of metal. Next will be several layers of chipping fluid and shades of blue for the look I’m after

Progress on the 1/35 Land Rover Series IIa aluminium bonnet and galvanised front bumper… I’m pretty happy with the effect.

Reskeet with a movie you've seen more than 6 times.

The Land Rover is starting to look more, well, ‘Land Rovery’. It’s a bit different for me, although it’s continuing my current four-wheeled theme after the LRDG F30 and the Kubel. Back to armour next though with a Sherman II to start and a Panzer III to finish.

That’s the Meng DAK Kubelwagen finished. It’s a lovely little kit, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Built pretty much straight from the box, I just added Def Model wheels. Painted with Mr Color, Tamiya and AK Real Colors. Weathered with enamels and oils.

I’ve not posted for a while, but here’s progress on my Kubelwagen. The pinwash is pretty much done and I’ve started the detail painting. I’ll enhance the chipping a bit but I’ll probably keep the weathering fairly subtle, just some light dusting and sand effects.

I’m calling the LRDG F30 Patrol Truck finished, finally. I’ve really enjoyed this project, despite the stowage taking nearly as long to paint as the truck itself.

Now, what to build next?

Bloody hell, painting this stowage is a marathon. I’ve done most of it now though, just a few details to go. I ran out of energy painting some of the boxes, particularly where the casting detail is poor. Hoping to get it over the line in a couple of weekends.

I’ve made a start on the Resicast F30 stowage set, still got a way to go though… so many boxes!!!!

Second layer of highlights on the Panzer III Ausf M, but I think I need to push the contrast and go lighter still. I’m a bit happier with these photos though.

I think I’m going to keep it simple and go with this scheme
January 11, 2025 at 10:27 PM
Had a spare couple of hours this afternoon so added a first highlight layer to the Takom Panzer III Ausf M. It’s not nearly as washed out as the iPhone pictures make it look.

Finally, a productive day at the bench. The wheels are on the F30 and the Panzer III has had a base coat.

I’m pretty pleased with progress on my third ever figure (the driver for my LRDG F30), just the goggles and hat to finish. Not sure how much effort to put into the lower half of his legs though, given they’ll be largely hidden once he’s in the truck.

I can’t believe how little progress I’ve made on the LRDG F30 recently (I’m blaming work and Christmas), but I’ve finally got the cab and flatbed glued in place. I just need to finish off some weathering then move onto the driver and stowage. Fitting the driver’s going to be fun!
