A curious and friendly barn cat. My hearing is not good -my humans took me inside ‘cause of coyotes. I sneak out whenever I can. I know about astrophysics, math, horses, making bread, and maintaining very old farms. As a cat, I don’t like authoritarians.
Biden and Harris have to be included, but the level of introspection that is needed would completely change the Party if taken seriously. They need to ask why they cannot win big, and hold power, even when running against monsters? Answer, their “brand”.

It’s not a “buyout”. you have to keep working. The only thing it promises is no 5 days in the office in exchange for agreeing to quit in Sept. You cannot take a new job. kinda lame…

Let’s not forget Jan. 6th -the real Jan. 6th. You know; the one where Trump incited his followers to attack the capitol, police were assaulted, and the Confederate battle flag flew in Rotunda. The one where Trump watched on TV until he decided to thank his people and send them home.

***Disinformation***, not “misinformation”. That and propaganda. It is intentional, designed to deceive, and done for political reasons.

suicide is not a normal mental state. The aim was probably to kill himself first and have it be widely reported second. The messaging is lacking. But that’s not surprising in light of job 1.

Yup. Spend some time abroad. US universities are the gold standard. But, Trump needs landscapers -i.e. less educated. Musk places a higher priority on low cost than high expertise. If he can make MIT grads compete with people from India, it keeps cost down even if the quality is not the same.

$500K is the current price of a different visa. There is one for entrepreneurs to start companies here. I have no idea what it cost back then. A Stanford dropout “converting” a J-1 to H1-b to fund an internet startup does not pass the sniff test to anybody who ever dealt with US visa problems.

No, he’s not. He’s obviously good at making money. But that knack does not necessary translate to other things as much as he thinks it does.

Thank you for a good conversation.

Family member’s issue is her employers was not aware of a rule change in 2015 that created a 2 year lead time for converting her H1-b to Green Card. H1-b is all about the employer -as Musk knows.
December 28, 2024 at 7:47 PM
Yup. Sweetheart deal. H1-B is tied to a specific job. Family funded internet startup would not have cut it. It is possible to get visas and Green Cards for starting a business. There are many rules. Cost was about $500K (ex legal fees) ~few yrs ago. It’s easier to get rich given a head start.

Nowadays, things are very hard. I have written the documents to get people approved for H1-B and Green Card. He would have had a J-1 to attend Stanford. When he dropped out, the clock would have ticked fast. Working for a family funded internet startup would not ordinarily qualify for an H1-B.

All good. Be should be more forthcoming.

I have family that were sent home because of comparatively trivial visa issues. His story of “converting” a J-1 doesn’t hold water. The statute of limitations is probably long past. He should be truthful about that too.

I would bet hereditary millionaire or more: Top 1%. Those are the families who can afford to send their kids abroad and fund their internet startups. If he were to say that his family had money, he overstayed a J-1 visa, and that he or his family pulled a few strings -I would say not murky.
December 28, 2024 at 2:01 PM
Like Trump, Musk’s past is deliberately murky. Who paid for the international travel while young? Who paid for the Ivy League education? Why was Zip2, a brainless local product, valued so highly? J-1 is a student visa, but he dropped out… There was almost certainly family money and connections.

Muskie, H1-B is not an immigrant visa -as a great many bright, aspiring hopefuls learned the hard way. It’s a way for people like you (“The Suits”) to suppress the wages of technical professionals.

They (Trump, Musk, Murdoch…) are the “cheaters and tax evaders that benefit.” His supporters are just the marks that pay.
December 26, 2024 at 1:33 PM
Naturally. This is what it’s really all about. Trump and friends don’t want to pay taxes. They don’t want their businesses regulated. In fact, they want to run government like, “a business”. They profit. You pay. Sucker.

The original was perfect when I saw it at about age 10. It was just me and my younger brother. We found it on PBS if I remember right. There was a large rosebush with large thorns that scratched on our bedroom window at night. After seeing it, those became the sound of his fingernails…
