Rogare (Latin for 'to ask') is the fundraising profession's global think tank and home of the discipline of 'critical fundraising'. http://rogare.net
It’s been argued (on SOFII) that St Paul was the first ‘career fundraiser’. But was he also the first philanthropic psychologist? Read about him on our timeline of fundraising history for classical times, follow the further reading links, and decide for yourself. bit.ly/FR-history-1...

The fourth timeline in our series on the general history of fundraising is published today, covering antiquity/classical period (1000BCE until the start of the Middle Ages in 475CE).

"But it illustrates what can happen when 'amateur' leadership is left untrammelled by professional ethics and competence."

Reliably blunt sense from @ianmacquillin.bsky.social.
The furore around the Captain Tom Foundation is unlikely to result in a loss of trust in charities generally, say our director @ianmacquillin.bsky.social. But it illustrates what can happen when 'amateur' leadership is left untrammelled by professional ethics and competence.
The media likes to portray these situations as a binary, with an innocent victim and a caricatured villain. But will the charity sector also suffer harm as a result of this narrative? -

Hello everyone. Rogare is now on Bluesky, where many of our favourite charity people now are (with more on the way). We rarely post on Twitter any more, but looking forward to engaging in constructive discussions here.
