It's a terrible practice that will only get worse - just like the add-ons at airlines and amusement parks but can be avoided if you do comparison shopping or just go to a brick and mortar. Companies will continue to nickel and dime us at every turn, but this issue can be mitigated.

Actually, I think non-W2 earners is where a huge issue lies. At the top of my professional career we paid 50% tax rate. NYC City, NY state, and federal taxes. My brother is a business owner, he paid/pays less taxes than I ever did and depending on the year, he made more money.
