Great investigation of the Nazis, racists and criminals mobilising the flag-on-lamp-posts movement. This is the kind of journalism that the national media could and should have conducted:

Conor Gearty died a month ago yesterday. He was deeply committed to human rights law without idealising it. He recognised its power & value while acknowledging its limitations (& those of the people engaging with it). He was also an exceptional lawyer. This is a fitting final piece in the @lrb.co.uk

You’d expect eloquence from a lawyer, but listening to him he was beyond eloquent.
There are two overlapping forms of #Racism occurring in this account which plagues so many racialised people in #CriminalJustice settings:
1. The construction of #CJS institutions as white spaces (see E Anderson).
2. The old imposed colonial myths of Black criminality (see P Gilroy)

This, on late British imperial administrators in Iran & Iraq, looks excellent. Focuses on the intertwining of the personal and the political.

UK politics has been restructured over the last few years around anti-trans and anti-immigrant ideas. Not because they’re objectively the most important issues, but because extremist US propagandists have pushed them centre stage. Next on their agenda, religious fundamentalism:

Good news is in short supply but I’d like to congratulate the very wonderful Dr Bill Davies on his promotion to Reader, the best of all academic titles. Bill and I have worked together on convict criminology in the UK since day 1. He is so modest about his achievements.
