I think heartgold/soulsilver would be a pretty good start. Remake of the second generation, which they thought would be the last pokemon games, so they ironed out some of the mistakes from the originals and got better sprites and graphics.

I would recommend alpha sapphire or omega red if you're wanting to play something on the 3ds setup. It would give a lot of retro story and lore from one of the earlier generations, however applies some more updated graphics.

Well you basically had mostly the same graphics, after the originals, so if you don't want to start with the standard overhead Gameboy rpg graphics, but don't want to control a camera and your point of view at all your choices are a bit limited.

She would have to bring a whole lot of receipts and not seek any immunity for herself. And that would be for me to think about not thinking she is a horrible person.

What are you looking for; more or less of a challenge? Better sprites and graphics? Story?

Ooh that's exciting, I've got at least one of every generation still. I've been thinking about getting a portable emulator. My favorite would be generation 5 (black/white 1&2) however I don't know about that one for a first play through. You could start with firered or leafgreen at the "beginning".

I could be more specific, but like that's the gist of it.
