I threw the scenario together as an absurd extreme, but honestly, the only humane method to get that image would be in CGI with silver sphere pictures.

To a limit. If there's a sword, I want the facets to match the linear reflection vectors. If someone wants me to render some Hajime Sorayama robot woman walking through the Lourve and they want the Mona Lisa on every curve of her body, that's going to be a "never need money again" year-long job.

depth and atmospheric color changes, but I haven't really delved into a systematic way to incorporate those aspects.

Most pieces are like studio shoots, so the five feet between camera and subject don't really come up.

I do multiple levels of detail work, either based on mood or client budget, so I optionally account for shade, midtone, speculars; glossy vs matte; cast shadows; sub-surface scatter; ambient occlusion; and one of the rarest details would be actual mirror reflections.
