Sounds like BlueSky needs Fedi / Mastodon style Content Warnings lol

Bluesky is pretty open to all content, and AI friendly, from what I understand. If you want a feed without AI Generated content, you either need to block it all, or go try a Fediverse server (such as Mastodon) which doesn't allow it on the timeline. (TLDR: try Fedi)

Mastodon Moderator here. To answer the question, we dealt with this on the Fediverse a while back, and the gist was, while we CAN'T stop ANYONE from scraping, we CAN present a significant legal hurdle to MONETIZATION if it's not consensual, ESPECIALLY if the host (BSky) tells them not to like this.

Congrats from Fedi / Mastodon: that's almost as big as our network. Hoping to see more federation between the networks soon, so we can interact more!

It really is very raccist.

It certainly is better to have options of networks that are run by nonprofits, or otherwise independently, that we can just connect to each other so no one group has total control. That's why I'm sticking with the Fediverse, and waiting for BlueSky to join it, rather than investing time here.

I swear, y'all's drama over here on Blue Sky so crazy, we hearing about it on Fediverse, and it is the most surreal thing to follow...

...and here I thought y'all were using AI for this over here.

Perhaps you should look into a server like WetDry.world or Tech.LGBT?

You're right that there is a lot of diverse content on Fedi, and sorting it is an ongoing problem, but there *are* tools there that will help.

(Golly it's so weird trying to communicate with only 300 characters)

I want to point out, the 18+/MDNI issue is actively being worked on, and you can block hashtags, at least on Mastodon (IDK about other Fedi software), and there are a few furry servers that prohibit NSFW content. There is also a push to make it a common rule to begin the CW with "NSFW".

I'm also going to point out, assuming they are serious about opening the protocol, people will eventually build a bridge between Fediverse and BlueSky, so the networks may be able to talk. The one issue I can see is if BlueSky doesn't moderate, most Fedi servers will block it, like Threads...

Going to follow you now
February 6, 2024 at 5:41 PM
I think it really depends on the server.

We allow a lot of content on TechHub, and still have plenty of crosstalk with pretty much every server that isn't actively promoting harassment of minorities.
February 6, 2024 at 5:40 PM
Same. I keep saying I should crosspost my most interesting stuff, but this network is so small and janky, it just doesn't catch my interest.

Better to keep pressuring people to move over to the one network that's not going to have these issues.
February 6, 2024 at 5:38 PM
Yeah it's very frustrating to pour so much time into a project like Fediverse and see people who somehow completely didn't get it write these confused complaints about it.

Maybe (assuming BlueSky actually opens the protocol) they'll pick stuff up by talking to people from Fedi when its bridged.
February 6, 2024 at 5:30 PM
Yeah I really don't know what is going on here, when I keep reading people complaining that Mastodon doesn't have feature that are like, the main point of Fediverse. Maybe they prefer billionaires to nonprofits, but I'm thinking it's more likely they joined before streamlining and got confused.
February 6, 2024 at 5:27 PM
When was the last time you tried this? Because they've been streamlining it, and I have found that it gets easier to find posts on topics as you follow more people who post about them...

I mean, if it doesn't work out well, Fedi will still be there. Has been for years now, and even though there have been temporary spikes and activity whenever Elon does his "stable genius" thing, there's steady growth with no sign of it slowing.
February 6, 2024 at 5:21 PM
Why not to Mastodon? It's a pretty large and diverse network. What are you looking for, and what kind of trouble did you have finding it there?
February 6, 2024 at 5:16 PM
That's why most Fediverse servers already block Threads.

Either way, Fedi has been around for over a decade, Mastodon for over half a decade... Pretty sure that's always going to be the best alternative, even if people don't immediately recognize it.
February 6, 2024 at 5:14 PM
Even then, most mod teams on mainstream Fedi don't block a server unless we think that server's admins promote harassment.

I'm wondering if the people saying this here either had it explained poorly or were on Mastodon.Art, where the admin blocks a lot of servers and acts like its normal...
February 6, 2024 at 5:10 PM
Definitely annoying, sorry they did that to you.

The one big issue Fediverse has is that your first server is never the best. Yeah, you can move servers once you've done the research, but it'd be better if we found a way to make choosing one easier...

What server were you on, Dr. Napaaqtuk?
February 6, 2024 at 5:02 PM
I mean... You can always still use Mastodon, or any other Fediverse server: we've been building an alternative to corporate networks like this one for over a decade, and we're going to keep doing that, no matter what shiny things billionaires dangle in front of us.

Have you considered crossposting?
February 6, 2024 at 4:57 PM
...what server were you on? If I'm catching your euphemism right, most Mod teams go out of our way to block "immigration understanders" so they can't bug you...
February 6, 2024 at 4:52 PM
I didn't hear anything about Spoutable, but all the affected Mastodon servers were patched within the past couple days, and it didn't affect anything else on Fediverse (eg, Wordpress, Misskey, Friendica, etc)...
