Recently I've been on a 3d printing kick and I find myself again at a point where I want to design my own models. Every Youtube influencer seems to be using Fusion 360 but with the way Windows is going I think I will be moving back to Linux soon. So I suppose FreeCAD it is then.

We decided that the season is not over yet. #motosky

After drying the filament for 48 hours and swapping the nozzle twice I'm now successfully printing PETG on my printer. I've never worked with anything else than PLA before. This feels like a big step. :D

I managed to set my old Moto G as a touch display for my 3D printer after the Klipper firmware disabled its own scren. I'm not exactly sure how but I did. I also bought some PETG but it will need to spend the night in the dryer before it's going to be any good for printing.

Since I have a couple of days off I've found a new project to keep myself entertained: Replacing my OctoPrint server with Klippy. Wish me luck. :)

It's interesting how the discussion about using LLMs for research is basically exactly the same discussion we had about Wikipedia 25 years ago.

I was able to cancel another Google subscription today. I think at this point the only one left is Youtube Premium and I don't think I want to give that up. I used it too much I just can't deal with the ads.

Google services I've successfully replaced with privacy respecting alternatives: mail, calendar, Chrome, authenticator, drive, photos, search, translate, maps, keep, docs. I'm also trying to use wallet and pay as little as possible.

Ugh... I guess I should submit my CPEs for this year.

Today I finally found an alternative for Google Translate: @kagi.com translate. The list of Google services I'm using is getting pretty short by now: YouTube, Home, Assistant to control Home and Fit for sharing data between my health apps.

It's been a while since the last time I was signing CD booklets.

It's officially the end of summer. This morning I switched the gas boiler back on.

In my effort to degoogle my life one of the most challenging ones has been maps and navigation. I've tried several alternatives but they all fell short by quite a margin. But recently I've been testing a Czech app called Mapy and it is looking very promising.

In my effort to disentangle myself from US tech giants I've decided to stop buying Kindle books. I also will not be renewing my Audible subscription. I will finish reading the books I've already bought and then I will move on to something else.

Slovenian mountains can get a little bit tricky. Not only are you going up a steep 14% incline with endless cobblestone hairpins but there's also oncoming traffic, potholes and cows. #motosky

@patrick.risky.biz The Vastaamo hacker is not out because he's presumed innocent. He's out because during the investigation and trials he's already been incarcerated for about as long as he's expected to serve. The state might have to pay him compensation if he ends up being locked up too long.

Looks like I need to add some new keywords to my filters to keep US politics from taking over my feed completely.

I managed to squeeze in a one night trip to Pasohlávky on the weekend with the usual suspects. #motosky

So far I'm very impressed with Kagi. I can foresee myself becoming a paid subscriber.
August 19, 2025 at 9:21 AM
I keep hearing good things about Kagi so I'm going to try using it as my default search engine for a few weeks to see if I can notice a difference.

This headline made me puke in my mouth a little bit. I've never been happier about deleting my FB and Instagram accounts.
Meta Gave Its AI the Green Light to Be ‘Sensual’ With Kids
Internal standards allowed Meta’s AI bots to flirt with children and describe them in romantic or sensual terms.

We did another short trip around Czechia with the boys from Chapter 0. Now it's time to service the bike and rest so that I'm ready for the big one at Lake Faak in a couple of weeks. #motosky

I really wish @proton.me would put less effort in creating new products and more effort into making their existing products actually usable. Something super obvious like a working import from Google Takeout for Drive.
