The skies over the beach turn into a deep magenta sunset. A few shadowy palm trees sway gently in the evening air.

“Sometimes I worry about the world.”
“Sometimes I worry about the future.”
“Sometimes I worry about nothing in particular.”

“Sometimes I worry about the people I love…”

Four shadowy silhouettes walk back from the beach. Lacy and Kelly reach for a hug, Casey waves his arms excitedly, and Will watches them with contentment.

“…but sometimes they worry about me too,"

“so sometimes I don’t worry.”

All of them smile. In the distance, the ocean glimmers a vibrant orange almost like magma; it was a good day.

Lacy sips a milkshake, Casey pats his stomach, Kelly grabs a fry, and Will savors a bite from his sandwich. Everyone’s eyes rest closed in a satisfied expression.

Will and Casey rest on the beach together. Casey sits back, seated in the shallow water, while Will stands to his left. The waters are calm, and a soft pink haze sets over the horizon.

“It’s nice,” Casey comments.
“Yeah,” Will agrees.

Casey looks down with a contemplative smile. “Kinda makes you wanna stay.”

Will looks ahead with a thoughtful expression. “Yeah, it’s like escaping from the world for a bit.”

They stare ahead and rest on that thought, sharing a moment of silence.

Casey then turns to Will, “I just meant that the water’s nice and cool here, but I like your interpretation more.”

Kelly pockets her hands into her hoodie, staring into the sand underneath her feet. It’s a nice sunny day out on the beach, with beachgoers about in the distance. But Kelly stands still as Will and Casey pass her by, excitedly heading for a swim.

Lacy approaches from behind, noticing Kelly’s discomfort. “Aren’t you hot in that?,” she asks. Kelly averts her gaze, “A little.”

Lacy holds Kelly’s hand and looks at her understandingly, “Wanna go back?” Kelly cracks a deflecting smile, “No it’s okay...I’ll catch up.”

“Okay.” Lacy starts to walk away, waving back to Kelly. “Let me know if you change your mind.”

Now all by herself, Kelly frowns and tugs at the dark-colored hoodie she’s wearing over her bright yellow swimsuit.

She glances around anxiously, and starts to remove the hoodie.

After a bit of a struggle, Kelly finally succeeds, with the hoodie now in her arm.

Kelly breathes a deep sigh of relief, when a voice suddenly calls out to her, “Hiii! You look super cute, girlie!”

Kelly perks up immediately, flustered and blushing. A pair of pretty women pass her by, waving and smiling amicably. She smiles back and stammers as she tries to muster up a response: “Oh! I um-” “Thank you!”

Kelly smiles to herself, feeling a rush of confidence. Her tail even wags a bit.

She quickly runs for the ocean, tossing away the hoodie into the air.

Lacy sits in the car’s passenger seat, waving a little peace sign with her offhand as she readies a group selfie. Will, in the driver seat, acknowledges the camera with a subtle smile. Casey and Kelly laugh and chat with each other in the back seats, paying no mind to the photo being taken.

Lacy reviews her phone and smiles kindly at Will, “Thanks for driving us, Will.”

“Ah, it’s no big deal,” deflects Will. He looks ahead with a content expression, “There’s no place I’d rather be.”

Meanwhile, they are stuck on the highway in standstill traffic, the loud and obnoxious honking of cars all around them.

Will appends his statement with a shift of tone, “...Except maybe our actual destination.”

Lacy sits in her living room with a hot coffee in one hand and her phone in the other. She reviews a text message from the group chat.

Kelly: what time we going to the beach again

Meanwhile, Kelly messily inspects a yellow swimsuit from her bedroom floor. She has a towel and a shirt on her lap, and her phone is somewhere off behind her.

Lacy: 12 pm tomorrow

A message from Casey appears. Lacy reads it with a little more involvement.

Casey: at midnight???? lol

Will is crouched at his desk, eating a slice of marmalade toast when he is suddenly interrupted by the ringing of his phone.

Lacy: pm not am
Casey: ohhhh duh lmao

Casey rests over the edge of his bed with a pillow cushioning his chin. He holds his phone with a pondering look, not really paying attention to the chat.

Will: sorry but we’re meeting my place first right?
Lacy: yes

A series of dings ring out from Lacy’s phone. She watches patiently, if a bit wearily.

Kelly: wait srry r we going to will at 12 or beach at 12
Will: my place right
Casey: why is it called pm and not am anyways

Lacy calmly sips her coffee, expertly typing out a measured response with one hand.

Lacy: we will all meet up at will’s house at 12 pm / noon and then carpool to the beach from there

Everyone else responds.

Kelly: thx mom ily <3
Casey: thanks mom B)
Will: ty mom

Lacy lowers her coffee. She smiles and lets out a sigh of relief, slightly amused.

A sleepy Casey sits in front of his desk, plucking a tune from his acoustic guitar. The bright glow of the computer screen keeps him awake as he sings softly into a microphone. Kelly is visible on-screen; she and Casey are on a call together.

Casey’s status:
- too tired to converse
-not tired enough to sleep
- eyes barely open
- low, breathy singing
- doesn’t think he sounds very good right now
- honestly just trying to fill silence in the call

Meanwhile, Kelly lies in bed with her head upturned, mouth agape, and arms splayed out. Earbud wires run from her ears down to her phone, with Casey on-screen.

- best sleep in weeks
