I think I read he also wanted more money to play Scrappy, think the same thing happened when he played Freddie Flintstone on The Flintstone Kids. I could be wrong, there's not enough info to find that true at least for the Flintstone Kids one

Man if I had a nickel for every time they brought Scrappy Doo back as a villain I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice

I also blame Lennie Weinrib acting for the character, I went back to watch first season of Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo and his voice on top of the bad writing was insufferable. Don Messick's Scrappy made him more enjoyable and voice closer to the age Scrappy was suppose to be.
