The economics of sports have far exceeded their social value. While corps are “investing” in sports, they have cut pensions, benefits, and employees. Only the c-suite, shareholders, media, athletes, and coaches reap the benefits.

As a lifelong sports fan, starting as a pre-teen in the early ‘70s, I’ve longed for the day of equality in women’s sports support. But as I struggle to save enough for a comfortable retirement in my 40th year as a senior position in IT, I see “tunnel fits” worth more than my house.

I’m all for coaches looking sharp on the sidelines, as well as those who choose the team issue 1/4 zip. But everything that woman wears screams “look at me”. Except that it’s the skill of the women on the court that actually deserve the attention.

If cost of living is related to standard of living, Denver has the income brackets to support an NWSL team. The cost of sports fandom has outpaced middle class incomes, so Cincy could be at a disadvantage.

Maybe misses the “great writing” “rom-com” criteria, but I love *oldie* movies It Happened on 5th Avenue and Holiday Affair. And Scrooged with Bill Murray.

Or we sacrificed our own career advancement so our husbands could get another degree or advance their own careers.

Addendum - the above was achievable because the strength of people-powered grassroots movements wasn’t subverted by tech-bro AI-driven misinformation. It wasn’t perfect, but news was delivered with fact checking and integrity.
