this and that
I don’t like when a recipe says “use your hands to…” because I’m not going to do that.

Went to Auckland Botanic Gardens last weekend and the weather was lovely for it (opposite of this weekend it seems) but also super sunny and not good for photos. It did spark some ideas for my own garden though! I like the African and rock gardens best.

I feel like I’ve been especially busy lately, but at the same time haven’t done anything noteworthy.

Albatross Chick Alert! 😍

The world's oldest known banded wild #bird, a Laysan Albatross affectionately known as Wisdom, is officially parent to another chick on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge!

Daphne has the cutest, teeniest flowers coming in 🥺

I’ve noticed recently my current phone doesn’t do very well with close ups, which is a bit disappointing at times.

There are a few patches of the garden which are so charmingly overgrown and perfect… why can’t it all look like this?

Quilt update: I’ve completed four more blocks in the past week, but “completed” isn’t really the right word as they are each in six pieces…. I could sew the halves together, but I wanted to get a feel for the project before tackling matching all those points!

I planted a significant quantity of rain lily (Zephyranthes candida) bulbs in July-ish(?) to try to fill this gap, but they haven’t done much until I noticed this cutie peeping out from under the wormwood.

I’m not normally a repeating block kind of guy, but lately I’ve been wanting a project I can chip away at without much thinking (and to use up some scraps).
These blocks interlock with their neighbors so some organization to keep the associated pieces together will be required…

Did some foundation paper piecing for the first time in a long time and it took me a second to remember what to do…. then I realised the seams pressed to one side isn’t going to work for me, so I immediately unpicked it 🙃I’m using individual freezer paper templates instead! #quilting

Started wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) this year and it’s doing well, though the larger bumblebees seem a little confused what to do with this flower shape. Yummy pizza flavored leaves for us humans!

This was one of my favorite handmade dresses when I finished sewing it back in 2023. Unfortunately, I have even more biceps now, so I need to rework the sleeve cuffs.

It’s the Colette Penny in a secondhand woolly fabric.

This blossom on ‘Ryan C’ seems to have realized this is a goth garden… is there a special name for an anomalous flower that looks different than the rest on the same plant?

‘JP Mudpuppy’, digital drawing, 2021.

This was an exercise in knowing when to stop. There are certainly a lot of areas that could’ve been more fleshed out here, but then it may have never been finished…
