Their state-sponsors (i.e., largest donors, both private and institutional) have jerked their leash. Insurgencies need money too and in this case, the insurgents want to win elections and keep their cushy jobs.

I should have been clearer. The visibility and clout can be enormous. The political professionalism and personal political skill of the players is often less than the offices would suggest.

His explanation makes even less sense than leaving Shota in. If he "didn't consider" putting Soroka in, why have him warming up? Almost makes me wonder if he had the opener foisted on him by the front office, bc it's so logically inconsistent.
