He also claims THUG promotes partisan political views, which he calls 'a new form of Marxism' and that the school is 'brainwashing' his daughter with 'highly contested political ideologies'. Mr Farquharson also called the book 'racist and divisive' due to making the white characters appear as 'baddies' and felt his daughter was being taught that due to her inherited skin she was 'bad'. The book, which is a multi award piece of literature, centres around a 16-year-old girl born and raised in a poor black neighbourhood who attends a posh - mainly white - high school in the United States and witnesses the shooting of her best friend.
