Yet another grey-haired birdwatcher, with green binoculars. This one’s based in South Wales, and is slightly bearded. My other diagnostic feature is my apparently appalling - according to my friends - taste in hats. I also post my own phone-scoped videos.
Great morning’s birding at Ogmore with Barrie Gardiner yest’day. A lone knot was followed by a hunting osprey, which flew down and up past us twice, close in. 100s of hirundines leaving Wales were followed by the confiding grey phalarope, so great to watch. Footage taken by phone, no scope required!

Very obliging of the marsh sandpiper to show at Peterstone Wentloog, esp having travelled all the way to Devon for it on Saturday, with Rich Webb and Owen Erasmus, only to miss it by 10 minutes! This footage taken at high water this morning.

The BOU have given the Pembs ‘Grackle’ category ‘E’ status. Seems inadequate for such a memorable bird, so I’m nominating it for the coveted ‘Bird Personality of 2023 Award’! Never seen so many beaming birders enjoying a birds antics.
Seems time 4a lucrative re-release of ‘The Day Of The Grackle’!

Wood Warbler Special! Absolutely stunning views of this captivating little bird at Dinas this weekend. Phonescoping’s usually useless 4 small birds, so esp wonderful 2 spend hours actually filming this fella. Hope you enjoy the footage. (Volume essential. Likes appreciated!) #birdingWales
