Hold on. Those utility poles serve an important role in calming bike traffic on the sidewalks as a safety measure. Otherwise we could have a speeding problem.

Lots of good points. Hard to discuss fully on Bluesky. Look forward to next ALX Skeets transportation happy hour, once invented.

Totally agree there.

Like I said, I'm commenting as a parent and not a professional. But on many occasions professionally I've run into proposals that treat transit as a black hole of capacity since usually you can. But ACHS is big, and normal planning rules dont always apply.

Good points, but enrollment is over 4400 (and growing) and one alxnow post said 50% of students take the bus to school. I just dont see any path where it's less expensive to have DASH handle that demand, which I thought was the original goal of the idea.

If your concerns aren't math/budget related, I get it. I'm not a fan of what I'm reading in that discourse. I'm fine with my ACHS student on DASH, I just see it best used for trips outside of arrival and dismissal.

So for DASH to pull this off, they would need extra buses and drivers at arrival and dismissal. And it would be cheaper to set up school specific routes to avoid transfers and superfluous service. Basically, school buses. I don't see the cost savings.

In what way? I haven'tbeen part of the planning process, but I dont get the math. In the 30 minutes before opening bell the 31 bus passes by ACHS 6 times, 3 times in each direction. Assuming empty buses and 50 students per bus, that's 300 seats. That's nowhere close to what they would need.

Can confirm Cameron Cafe is good for coffee and pastries and is kid friendly. We also like Cotado Cafe in Foxchase. Van Dorn Diner is our goto for traditional breakfast and is kid friendly.

From what I gather, the City regularly tests services like this (there are many). The feedback I've heard is that they over-promise and underdeliver, and/or the granularity is not fine enough for what the City needs.

It sounds like an equity problem, with more scrutiny going to wealthier neighborhoods. Another issue beyond outreach is the amount of defensive work done on projects—scope added just because a project is high profile and isn't needed otherwise.

I remember working on the DC 2024 Olympic Bid and waiting with bated breath for NPS' agreement to allow events on their land. In the end they were very cooperative but some of us had been burned before and were pessimistic. Would have been a very different (or non-existent) bid otherwise.

I need to digest the new guidelines, but if there's extra width I've been recommending floating the parking with a buffer between it and the bike lane, over the bike lane between the parked cars and travel lane. Need to find time to review in detail.

Ironically, affordable neighborhoods tend to be located in car-centric road networks, making things worse. The more walkable a neighborhood (with slower car speeds and safer streets), the pricier it gets.

We have pink friends on the west end too! Not so sure on the chonky trees.

Thanks! This place seems nice so I may stick around. Regarding Pickett I did provide comments directly to City Staff with some critiques/thoughts on the first concept, but always thought it was a great idea. Little disappointed with the local reaction and push-back.

If you think Thunderball is confusing then I can't wait for your reaction to on You Only Live Twice and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Some interesting... choices in those two.

When I saw how close the vote was I almost kicked myself for not testifying, or doing more to make sure it wasn't that close. As one of those 'experts' I may have helped. Although testifying was off the table as soon as Spirit tickets were acquired.
