Just lock people up. Indefinitely. That’s pretty much their whole plan to make America better. Meanwhile, this poor woman’s family is actively missing their daughter, sister, mother, grandmother.

File away, ye scholars!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

Our MAGA neighbors (very rare in these parts!) are finally putting their house on the market to move well out of the city. Honestly, it’s amazing they’ve stayed here in southeast Atlanta as long as they have.

Give to your local food bank!
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

I’m not saying that being a white Chicagoan causes bigotry — those are my own roots and I am not a bigot. But when I learned in his obit that Watson was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, it started to make more sense.

That said, he still did a great thing. And it indeed went to his head.
In case anyone is wondering if Watson was really THAT bad, @lpachter.bsky.social compiled a list of quotes that are absolutely not for the faint of heart.

Will be VERY interesting how the current administration responds to this news. My guess is silence, but they are also unhinged so who knows.

Some interesting, bug-related translinguistic discoveries today 🇨🇻 🇪🇸 🇵🇹

In Spanish and both main dialects of Portuguese, “dragonfly” is LIBÉLULA. The term I learned in Cabo Verde (Kriolu) is CAVALO-DE-FEITICEIRA (“witch’s horse” 😮).

In Kriolu, “praying mantis” is SAÚDE (literally “health”)…

My book’s LOC call number. Having this made the whole publication process feel truly final last year.

Incidentally, “GR” seems appropriate for a book about dragons 🐉

According to legend, the emo-punk trio I drummed for circa 1997, Sixty Second Skill, won “Worst to Ever Perform Here” at Voodoo Jive Records in Bannockburn, IL.

I literally did not know any of our songs. Just general beats the bassist/simger would cue me on.

I think about this sometimes. 🥁 🖤
