Absolutely. Someone managed to take the Tumblr High Water Mark "I am Going to Make My Hyperfixations Into a Magnum Opus" fantasy into a reality and that person is Vivienne Medrano.

I love Hellaverse, it's fun. I love its "born and raised in the fires of tumblr" sensibilties. I love its "bad design theory" that is instantly unmistakable as anything else at one glance. I love its corny musical theater earworms. I love its soap opera interpersonal drama. I love its sincerity.

Reminds me of how i was kind of excited by the idea of it all until i realized all the most popular characters were just unvaryingly moe-girls with different hair colors.

They don't want to be "comedians" they want to be "The funny guy". They don't want to be artists, they want to be "the cool, stylish one." They don't want to do the thing, they want to be applauded for being labeled a thing.

I think it's the implication of "if someone had only given them the accolades they wanted when they started, we wouldn't be suffering their wrath now", whereas the rest of us just learned to deal with being "just normally proficient at a thing" and not take it out on everyone around us.

Along the lines of patriarchy, it's a situation of: "They're the property of men in power. They can be exchanged between those men transactionally. But if they try to self-define in any way that defies the men who own them, that's destruction of property."
