Ignoring the color banding, here’s your image with a bit of editing: increased contrast, texture, clarity, Dehaze, and reduced highlights.
See! You do have stars in London!

This is just outside of Stirling (Gargunnock), but facing away from the city. You can see on this light pollution map it’s in the yellow, which is not great. Green and blue are best. You should get something in north London.

The stars above the old Scottish country house we stayed in, #shotoniphone in Night Mode. Each exposure was 30 seconds (in a tripod). Tap and lock the screen, drag the slider down slightly to take out any over exposure of the sky while retaining the stars.

What’s the etiquette on a long-haul flight (13 hours) when the person next to you is unwell? I felt sorry for her but she coughed every five minutes (onto my arm) and placed all her snotty tissues into the seat pocket. I wore a mask (which I don’t enjoy) but she wouldn’t. My son is now unwell.

The best use of Camera Control is by Blackmagic Camera app. If Apple keeps this feature, I hope they move it more to the right.

Updating content for my Mobile Journalism students, I came across this interview I did with @marcsettle.bsky.social in a pokey little room at the BBC in 2017. I ran it through Adobe Podcast enhance speech AI, the results are quite impressive.

Game-changer for my workflow. The remote feature in Black Magic Camera app: iPad controlling 2 iPhones. Acam set to 24mm, B is 48mm. Main audio on the Acam, using Rode AI-Micro with headphones to monitor, reference audio on Bcam.

That’s it! Obviously every image is different, so push and pull and experiment.

9. Increase contrast and decrease highlights.
10. If you have Lr, go to Effects and move Clarity and Dehaze up. This will darken the sky and highlight the stars.
11. You may need to adjust the color temp if the image is too blue. I added a radial mask to the cloud to restore magenta.

6. Exposure should be 30secs. Run your finger down slightly to reduce the exposure just to where the screen turns dark but you don’t lose the stars. Keep it at 30 secs. If it goes under, redo.
7. Take the picture.
8. I use Lightroom on my phone to edit but you can use other apps.

2. Compose and frame the shot during daylight/evening.
3. Mount your phone in a tripod. You can use handheld but better results with a tripod.
4. Ensure your camera is set to ProRaw if available.
5. When you’re ready to take the shot, tap the screen, press and hold to lock focus/exposure.

The galactic centre shot on iPhone 16 Pro Max. Anyone can do this, if you have an iPhone 12 and up. It should be similar for Android. 🧵:
1. Find a dark sky area and plan on the new moon. I used the PhotoPills app to work out where and when the galactic centre would be visible.
