At my last university my colleagues in the geography department used to run a field course in Florida. They stopped because of the way that British Muslim students were treated by immigration officials and abused by locals. That was about 10 years ago, I’m sure it’s only got worse.

Scientists: Raymond Gosling was the person who took photo 51, under the supervision of Franklin. Both should have got credit.

Having read up on it a bit more and thought about it I’m going to alter my opinion on that, yes they did steal her work. Both Franklin and Gosling (who actually took photo 51) should have been authors on the Nature paper.

TBF the Franklin business is the one thing I’d give him a bit of a pass on. There are a lot of people who *want* the story to be that W&C stole Franklin’s work but that’s not really how it happened. Watson himself said that RF should have got the Nobel.
