"Artificial intelligentsia." — @ruha9.bsky.social 🔥🔥🔥

Two dominant narratives of tech: dystopian and utopian. Both are technodeterministic. When we refer to them, we live in someone else's imagination. (Paraphrasing @ruha9.bsky.social.)

"Zombie Ideas" by Brainard Guy Peters & Maximilian Lennart Nagel

I've often wondered why communities of otherwise intelligent people would cling to obviously failed ideas. This reviews a wealth of literature on the issue.

"Realism for Realistic People: A New Pragmatic Philosophy of Science" by Hasok Chang

One of the reasons disinformation wins is because we have a broken idea of what good information is.

Chang makes a great contribution towards fixing that, grounding knowledge in everyday action.

"What Is Health? Allostasis and the Evolution of Human Design" by Peter Sterling

It's not a topic I thought I was interested in but I was drawn to the book because I found Sterling's work on allostasis excellent. And we talk imprecisely of "healthy" systems, societies, environments all the time...

Heh, just three years ago I was struggling to edit "The Internet Transition" into something readable — I don't think I've ever struggled this much with a solo piece. It feels like lifetimes ago.

Now Courtney is up, recapitulating the systematically anti-democracy work of Google, Meta, X, etc. and their alignment with authoritarian parties of the fascist, billionaire international.

The folks at @article19.bsky.social have a kitty for mentions of authoritarianism, and Barbora expects to be bankrupt by the end of her speech.

"Bigger, Better Funded, and Focused On Public Goods: How to revamp the European Union budget" by Zsolt Darvas, Roel Dom, Marie-Sophie Lappe, Pascal Saint-Amans, & Armin Steinbach

A number of good ideas, I particularly like the idea of structuring the budget around European Public Goods (EPGs).
