This Great Northern Diver at Foxcote today was perhaps overdue, but still an unexpected patch mega. Looked very sluggish when I was there, but was seen catching a fish earlier. So hopefully it’s in good health #ukbirding #bucksbirdnews

Another super day at Titchwell. 2 1st-w Ring Ouzels in-off at Thornham Pt, Little Gull, Goldeneye & Red-b Merg on the sea, Merlin harassing Skylarks, showy Firecrest, and a big Starling roost to boot #ukbirding

Spectacular Starling passage at Titchwell today, birds piling through at 9-10k/hr all day, right up til dusk. Awesome to see.
Not much other vis-mig - Snow Bunt in off, 100+ Chaffinch, handful of Redwing & Fieldfare. Merlin & Caspian Gull best of the rest #ukbirding

This Scaup at Foxcote is my best patch find for quite a while. Follows one yesterday near Tring. After being very rare in Bucks for about 10 years, we’ve had 7 since March 2023. Thanks to @paulgibbs.bsky.social for the pic #ukbirding #bucksbirdnews

Another superb 2wks in autumnal Cornwall. Excellent birding as always, with some modest finds - Pied Fly, Turtle Dove, Curlew Sand, plus Great & Sooty Shear from the Scillonian. Birds eclipsed by two longed-for insects- Monarch & Vagrant Emperor. Until next time, Kernow 🙌 #ukbirding #cornwallbirding

1st-w Turtle Dove, Spotted Fly & 3 Wheatear the best of the birds at a sunny Porthgwarra today. But best of all was a Monarch butterfly batting its way along the coast path, my first ever. Also Clouded Yellow & dozens of Red Admiral & Painted Lady. Glorious #ukbirding #cornwallbirding

Curlew Sand the highlight amongst a nice group of waders on Marazion beach this evening. Beautiful evening to just sit, chill, and watch the sea #ukbirding #cornwallbirding

Been a slow autumn on patch, but two Redstarts today were worth the early start. Hedges bouncing with commoner warblers, plus a Yellow Wag over #bucksbirds #ukbirding

Passage waders are a rare sight in north Bucks, especially at my local reservoir. Nice to see this splendid adult Black-wit today, amongst a noisy throng of recently fledged Black-headed Gulls #ukbirding #bucksbirdnews

My first ever Red-veined Darters at Porthgwarra round off a super Cornwall week.
Good no’s of butterflies, esp Painted Lady’s.
Red-footed Falcon, Garganey, Wood Sand & Arctic Skua best of the birds. Lots of Swallows, v few Swifts #ukbirding #ukdragonflies #ukbutterflies

Beautiful morning for my first (well overdue) survey of the season. Whitethroats & Linnets everywhere, a rattling Corn Bunting, plus a handful of Yellow Wags. Yellowhammers scarcer than expected though #ukbirding

Showy White-fronted Goose at @rspbotmoor.bsky.social yesterday.
A chilly north wind defied Spring’s arrival. No sign of the Garganey, but Redshanks, Curlews & Lapwings all settling territories #ukbirding

This gorgeous fellow has been visiting the garden recently to snaffle the remnants of last year’s blackberries. The withered berries look like autumn’s torn detritus, but there’s obviously enough to keep him coming back. Photo taken through the kitchen window #ukbirding

Gorgeous afternoon at @rspbotmoor.bsky.social
Reedbed stirring into life, with booming Bitterns, singing Reed Buntings & Cetti’s Warblers, and the near continual frisky chuntering of Gadwalls #ukbirding

@rspbotmoor.bsky.social looking ethereal in the winter fog today. Barely a bird to be seen. Water Rails picking along icy ditches, piping Wigeon breaking the silence. Still wonderful to be out & about.

Big flock of Linnets in my local river valley. Also a handful of Wigeon on the floods. Best of all a female Otter with 3 gambolling cubs - outstanding views. Forgot to take my scope again though 🙄

My unassuming local river valley is full of passerines atm, making use of the set-aside, game crop, and weedy margins.
Yellowhammers, Linnets, Reed Bunts, Mipits, winter thrushes, roving Starlings.
No further sign of the Hen Harrier, but am hoping for Merlin this winter 🤞 #ukbirding

Very late post, but on Thursday, blown away to find a beautiful male Hen Harrier in my local river valley, on the Bucks/Northants border. Sadly no pics, but here’s a couple of Goosander instead from the same visit #Northantsbirds #bucksbirdalert #ukbirding

The day after the storm at Marazion. Pale-bellied Brent, Common Scoter & Sandwich Tern offshore, plus RPs, Dunlin, Sanderling, Turnstone & Bar-wit sifting manically through the piles of seaweed #ukbirding

This Spotshank was a nice find at Otmoor RSPB today. Also Bittern skimming the reedbed, Hobbies & Marsh Harriers patrolling the sky with intent, and a small flock of Yellow Wags #ukbirding

Otmoor soporific in the September sunshine. Hobbies feasting on innumerable dragonflies. And the Glossy Ibis dropped in for a preen #ukbirding

My first post since fleeing Elon’s hellscape. Already liking the #ukbirding community on here 👍
Here’s an Alpine Accentor I saw in May, just as proof good birds sometimes turn up in my home county of Bucks.
