🇮🇪 🇪🇺 Button clicker. Oligarchy is bad.
Perhaps they'd like to torture immigrants but feel constrained?

Glad to see Ireland stick its neck out too

Every candidate country faces hurdles to get in. UK would find it easier than Ukraine or Serbia who are both candidate countries. If there is a will, there is a way

Don't tell the Russians ahead of time!

Is it a 'growing problem' coz that sounds like a far right narrative. The Syrian war and UKraine are one off events. It seems to have peaked a few years ago and has subsided since

Low earners do pay tax, just not on their small incomes. Alcohol Tobacco. Petrol taxes are extremely high.VAT is above average. It's a political choice as to how we do it. Income tax kicks in much earlier in Germany. Is it somehow better? Nazi AFD is topping the polls
December 6, 2025 at 1:03 PM
We have a very high VAT rate which is paid by everyone and disproportionately affects low earners

Small point but comparing anything with Irish GDP gives mad figures. It grew by 15.8% so far this year!

PS: But in the NSS there is reason for „great optimism“ because the patriotic parties of Europe will save Europe. So don‘t you despair, my fellow European!

Well.. yeah. I was being facetious You get labeled as a deranged militarist for saying that in Ireland.

We are neutral. No need for guns 🙃

Shot down with what?
December 4, 2025 at 4:44 PM
But we're neutral? How is that fair? [sarc]

Big, tough EU decisions are going to be made in the next decade re integrating Ukraine.. UK won't be at the table. The EU of today isn't even the EU that the UK might rejoin

Any idea of Germany's contribution? I presume it's about €25 billion

I'm replying to Jon re his point that Reform are leading in the polls.
December 1, 2025 at 12:51 PM
Reading comprehension fail. I'm asking why Labour is adopting Reform policies
December 1, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Do you think Reform cares about what Labour supporters think and alter their policies to win them over? Why should Labour?
December 1, 2025 at 11:27 AM
Yeah. Same as last year

I believe Irl put out a tender for 8000 units of armour with whatever spec and a Scandi company won the contract. Similarly we are looking to purchase patrol ships and Irish officials have been seen at UK shows. We might buy British outside this scheme but its gonna be a disadvantage.
November 30, 2025 at 1:58 PM
The way the papers have reported it as a fee just seems off to me. I believe that amount would be usable by the British government to buy kit from UK/EU contractors. I know the Irish government spent 16m buying body armour for soldiers. UK has a built in advantage with lots of established companies
November 30, 2025 at 1:14 PM
Every EU country is contributing to create this 150bn fund. Has it been clarified whether this 6.5bn 'fee' is simply a pro rata contribution that the UK is refusing to make because that's what it looks like. Not a charge
