Ah, mystery solved. I looked at Laud’s entry on Wiki and it says “towards the end of the First Civil War”. She was trying to sound authoritative but screwed it by dropping the “First”. I had thought it might have been a whiff of CofE/Royalist outrage. It probably was that too.
