But I can see this EO being used to deny language services in all kinds of critical settings—health, voting, legal proceedings, etc. Even before yesterday, federal websites were already lagging in multilingual offerings. And I expect an uptick in incidents of language harassment in public spaces.

Ensuring laws are written in English? They already are. Making English testing a requirement for naturalization? Already the case.

The new EO making English the official language brings zero benefits, except for those thin-skinned anglophones who feel oppressed by the mere availability of customer service options in other languages.
