Yesterday (March 25) evening first footage from huge marches in Gaza begin to appear, protests precisely against hamas rule. There were protests before the Oct 7 war, and small ones afterwards, but nothing of this scale as of recent.

Disgraceful response. The Academy represents "unique viewpoints" but these should be underscored by a shared humanity. To use them as an excuse is insulting to all.
AMPAS has issued a new statement that basically says: “we will continue to say nothing.” they don’t even bother mentioning Hamdan Ballal — an Oscar winner!!! — by name.

Most people do not think street executions of those they dislike are good. That voices to the contrary are loudest on social media platforms is largely a reflection of how such platforms are divorced from popular sentiment and algorithmically incentivize extremism and outrage.

Anna Jantar, pop icon of the 1970s, was featured as part of the Stars of Polish Music (Gwiazdy polskiej muzyki) series in 2023. While I mostly collect older stamps, I simply had to buy these - note the star cut-ins on the sides at the bottom!

Yesterday I saw Dziady again at the National Theatre in Warsaw. A whopping 3h45min runtime, but the best theatre I've ever seen - even better than I remember when I saw it 5 years ago. Deeply beautiful, moving, and so cleverly made.
