I'd probably lean towards dark fantasy with an adventure vibe. It almost picks up where Pit Guard: The Tanner's Boy, the previous book, left off. So, it is also a bit of a coming-of-age story for the main protagonist. I think it's onion layered thematically, but I didn't originally intend it to be.
