Then you'll enjoy this geodesic organ made from Dyson vacuum cleaner parts I saw at @emfcamp.bsky.social a few years back.

Friday morning, 8½ hours of work lined up for the coding servant. The weekend starts here?

I’d like to be able to claim this this is my 15 year old daughter’s first international independent travel experience 🇳🇴 ✈️ 🇬🇧 , but she’s already had a day out in Göteborg 🇸🇪 without asking.

No wonder the rear brakes on my touring bike were protesting for the last day or so of cycling from Oslo to Monaco. No brake lining left at all. Still, they got me down four mountain ranges and around 30000 metres of descent, with a heavily laden bike. 🚲

This being a project driven by whimsy, I put far too much effort into the typography on the function keys. The f is from an unknown font, so drawn from tracing photographs of the real thing. The digits on f2 to f9 inclusive are in Gorton, but f0 (typographically fø) and f1 differ, so hand-crafted.

Too long since I made any truly whimsical software, so last night I added Apple Touch Bar support to the Mac version of the BeebEm BBC Micro Emulator to give important missing function keys f0-f9 in iconic red-orange, a copy key in somewhat less iconic olive-brown and, a Break key in desiato black.

Good numbers today! 25 km/h over 130 km. 🚴‍♂️ In Norway, not Norfolk, too.

Perhaps the quietest place I have ever been. So peaceful.

Another step towards me giving up on the UK completely.

Just fabulous.

Day 5 of returning from a 3270 km cycle tour from Oslo 🇳🇴 to Monte Carlo 🇲🇨.

Boat is by far the best way to arrive in Oslo. As I pass by home, it’s still one of the more beautiful places I’ve been on my travels. 🇳🇴 ❤️

The dynamic range of experiences is important for full appreciation: Trangia stove outside the tent in a dew-laden field for breakfast. Five course meal with paired wine list in fanciest restaurant on the boat for dinner.

I couldn’t get bicycle tickets from Germany into Denmark at all. Anyway, the boat is very comfortable, and has capacious cycle storage.

Day 4 of returning from a 3270 km cycle tour from Oslo 🇳🇴 to Monte Carlo 🇲🇨 “by train”.

Cycled from the campsite the remaining 30 km to Kiel, in lieu of Deutschebahn’s comprehensive failure to operated the railway yesterday.

Now on board the Color Line ferry from Kiel to Oslo.

Cycling makes most problems go away, and the campsite on Große Plöner See is lovely.

When I told @pokeitandsee.bsky.social that I wouldn’t be home on Saturday, she rebooked the ferry (thank you ❤️), while I sat in a café, planned a cycle route from Hamburg to Kiel, and ate about 100 km worth of carrot cake.

I wish to revise my previous scepticism about Fulda. A charming town with interesting buildings old and new, and plenty of street cafés.
August 7, 2025 at 2:48 PM
The joy of finding there a ramps connecting the platforms underpass. I need to entertain myself for four hours here until the next available bike slot north, and Fulda doesn’t look particularly inspiring as German towns go.

A colossal faff getting my and two other bikes onto the train in Mannheim to supplement the five already there. We did it with a team effort. Now the booking seems entirely necessary.
August 7, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Yes!
August 7, 2025 at 12:13 PM
This looks like it might a cross platform interchange. Hope so!

I decided to cycle from Vaihingen to Stuttgart. It’s only about 10 km, on excellent infrastructure, and almost entirely downhill. Easier than struggling with more train boarding.
August 7, 2025 at 11:17 AM
On the whole train (German) there is accommodation for exactly one bicycle. You have to book this is advance.
August 7, 2025 at 6:33 AM
Stage 1: This service from Zurich to some place which is not quite actually Stuttgart. It’s further north. It will have to do.

I appear to have reserved space for my bike, but not a seat for me.
