Crews Hole Road, #Bristol closed for 2 weeks from today for work to make it safer for pedestrians to cross at 2 locations.

Just caught up with the fact that having had a new bus service (No 16) from St George to Temple Meads (well Avon Street which is near enough) for 2 months it is now diverted away from the station until April 2026 because Avon St is closed!

New to the Friends of Troopers Hill website photos - the aftermath of an incident at the Tar Works in Crews Hole #Bristol in the 1970s.
'The driver did escape with no injuries, the windscreen popped out as the tanker sank and he swam out through the hole!'

So you can see that it was a big area. I've highlighted it here, on old & modern maps. There was a stone path that ran across the ends of the gardens of the new houses and then down the length of the garden of the last house.

This wonderful poem by Elizabeth Emra of St George, was published in the 1830 edition of the literary annual, Forget-Me-Not, appearing on page 168.

#OTD 21st Dec in 1809 Frances "Fanny" Emra was born in St George, #Bristol. Frances was the youngest daughter of Rev John Emra, Vicar of St George and his wife Elizabeth. Frances is buried at Westbury-on-Trym.
