In case you don't have time to watch, though I highly recommend it: Minstrel shows, music, and cartoons were an accepted caricature of Black existence, and his behaviors are echo that caricature of Blackness. I had to unlearn it as a kid.

Absolutely. @foreignman242.bsky.social said this in his essay on IShowSpeed last week and talked about the how minstrelsy has been normalized American entertainment. I'm still ashamed that Smokey Robinson remembers Amos and Andy fondly...like, UNC WHAT?!
