⊱it’s a sloppy thing being human⊰
sometimes
it looks like
bright flags
and laughter
other times
it’s like tall
walls and
dead iron,
but sometimes
the greatest
act of defiance
we can conjure
is to bloom and
blossom, unfold
in our full color,
wherever we’re
able to find
the cracks.

... because life has
only the meaning
we choose to
give it,
how terrible
and wonderful
to be the cause
and the answer
for all our
desperate
prayers.

we’re so
lost now
we can’t
even say
just how
lost we
really
are,
we
can’t
remember
where we started

I’ve been looking
so long at these
almost pictures
of a bird that
I’ve come to
feel they’re
real rather
than just
rhyming
across
time
as
way-
points
on our
shared
maps &
journals,
description
and memory
are always
empty tombs
of what was
never is.

...sometimes it feels
like scrawling notes
on a burning wall...
adding to
the ashes
for future
rummagers
& armchair
archeologists
to sift.

sun burnt
old bones,
dried out
branches,
and rusty
bits of
metal
all
piled
and
hung
like
almost
art

The devil
is in the details
‘cause that’s where
we all have to
live it,
down in
the seconds
as they stretch
into hours,
down
in these details of
rain drops smearing
across windshields
& catching little sparks
of street lights as she drives away from
them while he
still sits still
beside
her

It’s in the hands;
the way we hold them when they are empty sings the song
of how we fill them
all day long,
the way we fill
them so they
don’t have
to be so
empty,
and what we
do with them
when that
inevitably
doesn’t
work.

If I were
you
and
you
were me,
we’d still
never be
enough
for one
another
and
that’s
fine.
However,
if I were me,
but REALLY me
and you were you
but really, truly you,
we’d find our
way to far
softer &
content,
like well-
fed child-
ren in a
garden

ablutions
in a mud
puddle
might
wash
mites
away
but
this bird
has threats
much larger
than a mite
but
his clan has
no song of
these threats
that they can
sing and
so
he’s
never
dreamt
of them.

I chuckle
with full,
wet eyes
and watch
myself molt
right back
into me.

Sometimes,
through
no fault
of my
own,
I’m paying
attention
enough
to see
there’s always
something
to see.

I found
this timeworn
treasure of
words
while
wandering
and
wondering
with dusty friends
on wabi sabi streets.

It’s settled
into place
in both my
heart and
home;
It is a terribly
human thing,
each turn of
page finds
me staring
at
myself
March 8, 2025 at 2:01 AM
still
there’s
this photo,
like desert
dry bones,
daring me
stop with
pretending
tomorrow
always
comes
after
today

and it’s
marked
down to
half price,
which only
proves its
point

🚨

then,
this paced poem
of passionless
prognostication,
preparation for
known perils…
Like an ode
to ALL the
buses we
didn’t even
know we
were on
until long
after we
should’ve
been gone…

And then,
this lonely
shopping
bag floats
into and
out of
view;
a single note
symphony &
wordless
sonnet
about
costs
paid
longer
than a
pleasure
ever lasts.

I’ve wanted yellow boots
since my early twenties…
life took some turns and
they just didn’t fit in my
world for almost a lifetime
and change…
they do now
and I’m just
delighted on
a dozen fronts!
