Add subtle warm spices into the dough or cream filling:
Cinnamon – classic in African milk tart (melktert) and pastries
Nutmeg
Cardamom
Ginger – ground or candied
Vanilla – essential for choux cream fillings; pure extract or seeds

Roasted or grilled broccoli is always a good option. Ricing the cauliflower to use as rice substitute, but can't argue with aloo gobi!
