New at BeerBarsJapan: Tex-Mex cuisine and American-style craft beers make an excellent match, and we're pleased to report that both the food and the drink at this flashy brewery-run restaurant are top-notch.

I don't know why, but I always like visiting the party-boat parking lot when I'm in Asakusabashi.

New at Bento - Muy's dramatically lit bar is an impressive sight, stretching half a city block and offering a stunning nighttime view. The atmosphere is lively but not too noisy to impede conversation, and prices are quite reasonable.

What better way to beat the summer heat than with a refreshing Chocolate Mint Whipped Cream sandwich from 7-Eleven! (The little sticker says "peppermint oil".)

Travel notes: Sobameshi - a mashup of yakisoba and fried rice flavored with stewed beef tendon - is Kobe's unique contribution to Japan's down-to-earth "B-kyu gourmet" culture. Tankubo has been serving it since the 1950s.

My favorite thing about that escalator is that you have to climb a few stairs before you get to it!

Travel notes - Cafe Tales in Osaka serves only Colombian coffees, making it a good spot to compare coffees from Colombia's different coffee-growing regions. They also have a breakfast/brunch menu featuring French toast (sweet or savory) and big salads.

"One of just a handful of Greek restaurants in the Tokyo area, Fili offers well-prepared Greek standards in a homey, Mediterranean-inspired setting. There's a decent selection of Greek wines by the bottle or glass to go with your meal, and ouzo for the adventurous."
