Being accused of misappropriating trade secrets can be brutal for workers. It wrecks their professional reputation, and can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend against. Hence why it's such an effective strategy for employers.

Being accused of misappropriating trade secrets can be brutal for workers. It wrecks their professional reputation, and can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend against. Hence why it's such an effective strategy for employers.
Sometimes, workers collected documents to support their claims of wrongdoing, and that document collection was then recast in court as trade secret misappropriation, despite nominal whistleblower protections in the law.

I've spent the last few months digging into the growing use of trade secrets law by employers to fight back against workers who raised claims of discrimination, harassment, fraud, and other issues.
