As a 2nd grade teacher, a student, Erik, asked me: "Mr. Williams, where do mountains come from?" I explained tectonic plate collision and volcanic activity as best I could. Then Scotty, a philosopher, asked: "But Mr. Williams, why do we need mountains?" I've been answering that question ever since.
