If the government is shut down, Trump gets to unilaterally decide which services are essential. If he decides that the courts are not essential, there is no way for the Democrats to ever get them reopened again. The courts are the only thing we have going for us right now.

So it turns out Schumer felt that shutting down the government (which includes the courts) was the worse alternative, because no way to ever reopen without Trump on board. I think he was right. Could have explained it better though.

Stand up an org that hires every single FBI agent and DOJ atty fired and put them to work investigating the Trump WH.

Put them to work filing lawsuits on behalf of every fed, alien, & LGBTQ victimized. File formal protests against all contractors.
