Basil McDonald has retraced the route and reshot images taken by Brian Bloice in 1967 on a walk from Brian’s home on Hubert Grove SW9 to Lambeth Archives at Minet Library, opposite Longfield Hall.

The cake has been cut and the @brixtonsociety.bsky.social 50th Anniversary Exhibition is open at Brixton Library. Understanding the past, looking to the future. On till 9 August. A glimpse into some of the plans for Brixton that never happened, significant events and work of the Society.

🙏to lovely group who joined @brixtonsociety.bsky.social Alan Piper and I on our Myatt’s Fields and Fiveways walk. We stopped to talk about Dark & Light Theatre and other Longfield Hall history. Of course there were cats, stink pipes and Music hall mentions too.

Sadly no headstone remaining to John Bannochie. He is in between the graves with dilapidated memorials in the foreground.

My coal hole cover spotting continues. A whole row of coal hole covers I’ve not spotted before outside shops on Clapham Road, Oval. Photographers George and Herbert Tear, who lived on Loughborough Road, had their studio shop till 1917 where Foxtons is now, so passed many times 🤦‍♀️

Loughborough Road orchid artist Nelly Roberts. 5 of her paintings now on display and in the collection of The Garden Museum. So glad I tipped them off they were on sale.
