The RNSSC serves as the 'think tank' for the Royal Navy. By harnessing internal and external intellect and progressive thought, we work to inform and strengthen current and future decision making and shape the fleet of today and tomorrow.
We were thrilled to once again welcome Dr Matt Heaslip, Senior Lecturer in Naval History at the University of Portsmouth, for the 2025 Crisisgame!

This year’s scenario tested participants’ critical thinking in evacuating thousands of civilians amidst a tense geopolitical environment!

Norway is making a significant contribution if a frigate and an auxiliary support ship to the UK's Carrier Strike Group deployment in 2025. Head of RNSSC visited the beautiful city of Oslo to join a conference on the importance, challenges, and risks of the deployment. #WeAreNATO

We are grateful to the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics and Emmanuel College for hosting us, and to all of the fantastic speakers who gave up their time and shared their knowledge on Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic and more.

This had been a superb week for many of our 1SL and Richmond Fellows. Making our annual visit to @cambridgeuni.bsky.social, we heard from a range of experts and discussed and debated the geopolitics of the past, present and potential futures.

The Paris Naval Conference is an important date in the naval strategy calendar. This year the theme has been the maritime economy.

Thank you to @ifri.bsky.social for hosting so well, and to our partners and friends at @cesmmarine.bsky.social.

We look forward to seeing you in London in May.

Crisis games are valuable. They make us think. This week, we held a crisis game with Loughborough University on the issue of Svalbard. This follows a seminar on the polar regions we did with Royal Holloway in the autumn.

Read about both on our LinkedIn page.
