Juries keep the law alive to what real people think; they help to keep the courts from losing touch with that. Judges do pay attention to what juries decide and it informs their decisions. It's a vital piece of our common law system and we should hold on dearly to the right to a trial by jury.

It's often argued that juries are worse than judges at making a legal decision, and a lot of the time, that maybe true. But if it's only ever judges relying on past judges' decisions, we lose connection with what we as a society think is right or wrong.

Judges are tightly bound by law and precedent; Juries can choose to look at things differently.

This isn't just limited to jury nullification; they will in many cases follow their own views of right and wrong (instead of precedent) outside the lines of how the law says they should decide.
