Sad but great day as our group celebrated Dr. Walker Rogers (far left) heading out for his postdoc at Yale in a couple days. He is the last member of a great cohort of 4 students I had the honor to train over the last 5-6 years: Drs. Gottlieb, Tatom, Gnatowski and Rogers! Very proud of them all.

Proudly announcing successful defense of thesis by Dr. Walker Rogers - "Genetic Studies at the Intersection of Alcohol Use and Pain". My 19th PhD or MD/PhD trainee! Great work by Walker. Look forward to seeing his future success. Another productive collaboration with my good friend, Dr. Imad Damaj!

Annual beach week. Beauty and power of the ocean is always serene and humbling.

So proud to have the honor of “hooding” my student, Dr. Emma Gnatowski, this past weekend! Now I just need a mortar board that fits a Scandinavian head size!

More #HandsOff rally photos from Richmond. So many issues were portrayed by the signs — democracy, freedom, science, human rights for all, the true meaning of this country, etc. Great day!

Fantastic day at the #HandsOff march in Richmond today! Finally something that reminded me again there are so many reasons to be proud of being an American!

Extremely proud to announce the successful thesis defense by my student, Dr. Emma Gnatowski! Great work, beautiful thesis and defense. Hard to believe -- but my 18th PhD student trained!

Great day in DC and across the country today as thousands stood up for science. Felt very proud to be a scientist. Now we all need to go convince others about what we know to be the value of science and the NIH.

Beautiful snow today but could we save some of this for next year! We had snow on the ground most of January -- in Virginia! Photo credit to my dear spouse.

Snow and ice certainly caused some issues in the mid-Atlantic region -- but also some beauty!

Took this sunset pic out my car window while at a stop sign. Got more than the sunset but somehow I like the way it turned out!

Posted this some years ago on that "other" site -- still love the pic of our pup and lamb hanging out together!
