Reuters news update from 7/7/2025 Trump executive order officially extends tariff deadline to Aug. 1 The Trump administration has issued an executive order from the president that, as announced earlier by the White House, extends the trade negotiation deadline to August 1: "I have determined, based on additional information and recommendations from various senior officials, including information on the status of discussions with trading partners, that it is necessary and appropriate to extend the suspension effectuated by Executive Order 14266 until 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on August 1, 2025," it reads.

It’s July in Florida. This tent does not appear to have any way to move air. The wet bulb temperature in FL is about 28°C (82°F). Add a bunch of bodies clustered together and you have people dying in custody.

Text from an AP news article by Lindsay Whitehurst says: The Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration to restart swift removals of migrants to countries other than their homelands, lifting for now a court order requiring they get a chance to challenge the deportations. The high court's action came after District Judge Brian Murphy in Boston found the administration had violated his order by sending eight people to South Sudan in May. The migrants had been convicted of serious crimes in the U.S. and immigration officials have said they were unable to return them quickly to their home countries. Authorities instead landed the plane at a U.S. naval base in Djibouti.

A page in a book that reads: Drucker intuitively grasped some elements of Nazism that historians were still trying to work out decades later. He thought that Nazi and fascist doctrines had evolved in a general climate of loss of belief —not only in capitalism but in socialism as well. Since there were no positive answers to any social problems, Nazism could only be against everything, even against inconsistent things: it was antiliberal and anticonservative, antireligious and anti-atheist, anticapitalist and antisocialist, and most of all antisemitic. In a particularly sharp observation, he noted that Nazism had succeeded not because people believed its messages, but in spite of the fact that they did not. Nazi successes, he pointed out, had been "witnessed by a hostile press, a hostile radio, a hostile cinema, a hostile church, and a hostile government which untiringly pointed out the Nazi lies, the Nazi inconsistency, the unattainability of their prom-ises, and the dangers and folly of their course." Clearly, he concluded, "nobody would have been a Nazi if rational belief in the Nazi promises had been a prerequisite." The best explanation of Nazism that Drucker had ever encountered came from a Nazi agitator "whom, many years ago, I heard proclaim to a wildly cheering peasants' meeting: We don't want lower bread prices, we don't want higher bread prices, we don't want unchanged bread prices—we want National-Socialist bread prices." Since their logically inconsistent rage and hatred could never deliver any satisfactory social progress, the Nazis' only recourse was to this kind of irrationality: Nazism could only "accomplish its task through a miracle." Higher bread prices, lower bread prices, and unchanged bread prices "have all failed. The only hope lies in a kind of bread price which is none of these, which nobody has ever seen before, and which belies the evidence of one's reason."
