Australia. Science. Energy. Go Tiges! Also I dabble in Apple platform development. Oh and optometry.
I guess if you’re doing regular trips over 500km or don’t have an accessible power point at home that could be an issue but I wouldn’t bother with plug-in hybrid in that case, why bother carrying around a second motor and battery?

If you love torque and efficiency, why don’t you have an EV? They take about 20-30% of the energy to go the same distance. And torque is flat from zero.
September 17, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Surely someone obsessed with efficiency would already be driving an EV?

Also not one person in his story called him “Sir”.

I live in Melbourne Australia. Temperatures reach over 35° often in Summer and over 40° 2-3 times a year. Apart from the cooling getting a bit of a workout my car works fine. It’s especially nice to get into a cool car at the end of the day. As to an apocalypse, my solar system can charge my car.

Road user charge for all. ICE vehicles pay an environment, health and pollution tax depending on emissions.
August 13, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Of course it does. The more you drive, the sooner you pay off that “debt”. That doesn’t change this fact: You knew full well that everyone talks about “carbon debt compared to ICE” but pretended that you had read “carbon debt compared to nothing”. You are dishonest and yet you call me a “parrot”.
August 3, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Oh OK. Happy to discuss. It all depends on how the EV gets its energy. If it’s from 100% clean energy (say you’re charging from your own solar panels), then one year is possible. If it’s from the grid, which for most places is about 40% renewable, then it’s going to take 2 to 4 years.
August 3, 2025 at 3:40 AM
I mean the headline’s enough “when do EVs become CLEANER THAN GASOLINE CARS”. That’s not saying “EV becomes carbon neutral after 2 years”!?
August 3, 2025 at 3:38 AM
Doesn’t mean you have to! But just one reference then, should be super easy to find. Just ONE person saying that an EV will magically become zero carbon after a year. Did you think that some people think EV actually absorb CO2 from the atmosphere??
August 3, 2025 at 3:06 AM
Also I’d suggest you stop making your earlier claim as that’s called a “straw man argument” where you assume a claim that no one has made and argue against it.
August 3, 2025 at 1:37 AM
Yes but you’ve misunderstood that claim. That is comparing an EV to an ICEV not comparing an EV to nothing. Perhaps provide the whole article with the quote in context and we can discuss what the author meant by “carbon debt”.

By the way, Polestar is working on the dream of a carbon zero car, even though it may be decades away. www.polestar.com/global/susta...

Sorry you’ve mangled that fact. It takes a year or two to pay off the increased cost of carbon in the manufacturing COMPARED TO AN ICE VEHICLE. No one has said an EV is carbon neutral, you’ve just misunderstood the facts. Yes “an EV becomes carbon neutral after a year” is indeed nonsense.

If they’re replacing the equivalent fossil fuel powered vehicle, they are about 80% better. But I agree smaller vehicles are better.
August 2, 2025 at 10:07 PM
I can’t help you with your specific requirement since I have no idea what products are available in your country, and if it’s the USA, that’s one of the worst countries for EV availability. 3/3

But most stuff that will go wrong is mechanical, so in the long term it’ll be just purchasing parts either new from Polestar or from a wreckers. There’s no difference to any other car. Also lots of people do EV conversions of classic cars. 2/3
July 30, 2025 at 1:09 AM
Only thing I’ve had break on my car so far was a “drivers door module” that was draining the 12V battery. Since my car has a 5 year warranty I’m not going to be repairing that myself, but the part would definitely be available to purchase. 1/3

I don’t get this complaint. 400 miles in a weekend means stopping to charge once for 20 minutes, or charging overnight while you sleep. Sure it might be slightly inconvenient, but surely it’s worth it to help reduce co2 emissions?

Suzuki have had plenty of time to find a solution. Instead they chose the route of political pressure against good policy for Australians. See ya later Suzuki.
July 29, 2025 at 9:52 PM
And that is why they don’t let you change it.

Glad you agree that oil is bad. Nice one.

Yep animals just LOVE oil.

Not coming till 2029 unfortunately and at a steep price.
