We've had our ups and downs over the years but at 14, our daughter knows her story and has a great relationship with her birth mother, as we do too. She also knows that we will all answer any questions she has. I can't imagine having it any other way.

When my wife and I adopted our daughter the idea of an open adoption was scary, for a number of reasons. This is so good Jess. I was also raised in the church and always struggled with the idea to not question, just believe. I am not a believer, I'm not sure if I ever was. But I live my life following values that align with what Christians pretend to have but don't exhibit. That's all I need.

My daughter had to deal with that last year in 6th grade. She didn't put up with their "Boys are better than girls" bullshit then, she won't put up with any version of it this year. She understands the power of a swift kick to the nuts.
