Researchers from #WHOI + UMass Darmouth have been combing through thousands of whalers’ journal entries for data on storms, sunny days, and more, with the intention of improving our understanding of current weather patterns.

What the shell? Invasive green crabs are wreaking havoc on East and West Coast fisheries. These crustaceans are predators of shellfish and scallops and destroy natural seagrass.

Emperor penguins are classified as “near threatened” on the IUCN Red List-- but a new @whoi.edu led study shows they meet criteria to be uplisted to “vulnerable” or “endangered.”

In it, researchers address the risks presented by Antarctica's changing landscape.
