No Starter Packs. Retired int'l trade expert seeking engaged, progressive voices. Interests: travel, languages, photography, birds, gardening, cooking. I block MAGA/Nazis/porn/crypto. Francophone/Deutschsprachig. This Yinzer votes straight blue.
This is so embarrassing. In Europe, the average person is at least functionally bilingual and often trilingual. It is the same in much of the world. I am functionally pentalingual but fluent in only three.

Ronald Reagan envisioned North American as stronger economically and strategically with free trade. I was NOT a fan, but he was right on this.

I was at the University of Geneva in the fall of 1982 during a period of protests and martial law in Poland. One of my classes had a Polish emigre professor. A Russian "student?" crashed the class one day to argue against the Polish rebellion ... in fluent French. Malign actors plan for this.

I was 3 and living in Germany where my dad was in the Army. All personnel were called back to base from any leave. My mom was alone in off-base housing for a week while my dad stayed on base. It was considered a very close call in Germany at the time.

1) None of his advisors come from manufacturing and so none understands supply chain management. And somehow, no one seems able (or willing) to explain that every import is recorded at the border and only released when the U.S. importer pays any duty owed.
But also 2) threats are his modus operandi.

Ms. Resists, what exactly Vice President Harris said, as opposed to other Dems and surrogates, overlooks the point. You think Ds did not understand the threats? We did. Presidential candidates have precious little time to grab attention; they rarely get into the weeds -- even if they are thistles.

My local paper today reports on the closure of a small manufacturer. 80+ jobs lost. Company cites trade war w/China as a factor.

I was at the commencement as my youngest graduated. The speech is on YouTube. I thought the idea was silly, but it was really quite cute. Seeing an entire stadium sing The Rainbow Connection was the best.

My youngest tried to open a Roth IRA the day he turned 18. It took a few days -- I think they though it was a fake account for money laundering. He fully funded it on Taco Bell paychecks.
