In other states, fixed parliamentary terms have increased the number of days between elections - but would they have the same effect in #politas' Hare Clark system?

As we hit the dying throes of this government, the Tas Policy Exchange team will have some new analysis out tomorrow... here's a teaser! Maybe this has something to do with our policy problems?

Political finance reform can be a great way of restoring trust in #democracy. #Australia is doing better than a lot of countries, but we can't be complacent #auspol #politas

I'm fascinated by 'assumed intentional informal' voting - where people scribble/draw a picture on their ballot, or just leave it blank. This can be used as a proxy for disillusionment with politics (other explanations are available). AIIV has been steadily increasing in Tas #politas #auspol

Supply (availability of GP appointments) is also a big challenge. It's no wonder Health Minister @markbutlermp.bsky.social came down to Launceston to announce 20 new med student spots per year during the campaign. But will this policy make a difference for rural/regional Taswegians?

54% of Tasmanians have a chronic health condition (highest share in the country), and we are much less likely to be bulk-billed when seeing a GP.

Following on from yesterday's post - let's look at @animaljusticeparty.bsky.social preferences in 2022. In every Tas electorate, they get knocked out in the 1st or 2nd count, which means there's lots of options for where their prefs could go #auspol #politas #ausvotes2025

Look at the table for Lyons below! When a minor party is knocked out, their preferences mostly go to another minor party. It’s not until the field has slimmed down that one of the major parties gets more than half of the preferences on offer (excluding the Lib Dems, which are a special case).

Tassie household disposable incomes reached a ten-year high in 2021, but by mid-2023 they had fallen by more than 7%. Our recovery has actually been a bit quicker than other states, but many Tasmanians are still under the pump - check out PIMBY#2 to find out more.

Really enjoying the new #politas 'War on Red Tape' cliché fiesta. I feel kinda sorry for red tape though. It gets a bad rap, but some of it is pretty handy for stopping us getting underpaid, injured at work, or sending children up to clean the chimneys for tuppence a day...

Hey @surlydave.bsky.social and #politas, here's a scandalous scoop for you: MS Copilot and ChatGPT won't create any images featuring a Tasmanian Devil due to potential copyright violation. GIVE US BACK OUR DEVIL!
