I know substantially less about the history and took away a rather similar interpretation.

the transfer fees are a meaningful part of what pays the wages of all the players down the table, you can calculate the "trickle down" of league net spend

the reason top end wages are comparatively low is that there are so many more pro soccer players

it's not that this money isn't being paid to Declan Rice and just eaten by owners, it's that this money is being paid to dozens of pros who would be car salesmen in the US

As someone who took a class taught by Prof. Fernandez Armesto, I had no idea he had a reputation as a pop historian. Given that said class was called "Humans and Other Apes," I also cannot say that I am surprised.

There certainly is a pipeline of plausible stars coming through, never mind the occasional Jonquel Jones-type who pops later.

To be fair, Candace Parker's passing stats in college were also surprisingly underwhelming. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/... But I really hadn't reckoned with good Strong's are, even factoring in how UConn's talent advantage and Princeton offense tend to inflate passing numbers.

Generally speaking, I should say - I might be overgeneralizing your point.

Ah, I see it; you including Pippen in the first response threw me off, but the distinction you are drawing is the one that in my head I consider perimeter vs. post player, which cleaves slightly differently. There is one notable exception to the trend you note: Taurasi.

You don't classify Watkins as a forward? Interesting; for my part, I always think of Watkins as a LeBron/Magic-style women's prospect, with the other one being Candace Parker.

The Godfather being one of the exceptions - any others? I haven't seen Serpico.

You have her over Watkins, too?
