A writer of sci-fi and fantasy. Sometimes a small droid but never a bot.
People say American culture doesn't evolve but 30 years ago this would have been a Bizarro reference

I'm going to say a 2 simply because if it's not just a memory I'm calling up, it tends to be "animated" style rather than live-action. Like I'll think of a cartoon apple before a real apple, unless I'm thinking of an apple I have in the kitchen and saw recently.

Agree, and I've always liked that it's separate but linked to what the Empire represents- dehumanization, oppression, etc. Institutional evil being directed by more personal animus. At the heart of every ostensibly dispassionate fascist machine there's a couple of dudes who just fuckin hate everyone

I hate the whole idea of "balanced" between light and dark side. You don't get to do a little evil as a treat because you've been so good recently, that's bullshit video game thinking

I don't know, I tried just opening my WIP and staring at it but the characters just stayed where I left them. Think I'm going to have to get involved somehow.

Presumably the psychic shrieks of the damned can be heard from further away but don't really help with navigation as much

The original is way more interested in feeling aesthetically like a samurai movie than it is with how civilization would possibly function, and everything else kind of flows from there. Vibes over historical logic.

The idea was that George Lucas was attempting to evoke the feeling of the Flash Gordon serials from the 1930s-40s, which did that exact thing. So it's sort of an intentionally corny style throwback in that way. Same thing with the prodigious use of screen wipes.

oh hey I didn't know you knew my mother

Bonus points if the "help" is not something you even wanted done in the first place

I feel like it's clear he didn't care one way or the other for the source material, it's just what was popular at the time. As compared to Robin Hood, which would have been based on movies from his childhood. Or GalaxyQuest, a parody that has deep affection for its subject.

I feel this. I understand watching something and not liking it, I don't understand being mad as if you were personally betrayed by the creators (much less the corporate executives). Some shows turn out to be a waste of time. Why waste more being angry about them?

Good thinking, just gotta hope it doesn't crawl foul.
